Citizen Empowerment Platform for the Participatory Management of Household Biomass Waste and Used Cooking Oils
06.2020 – 02.2022
Household biomass waste and used cooking oils, which fall under the category of used edible fats and oils, represent a significant category of waste that requires special handling. It is widely accepted that the energy recovery of biomass and used fats and oils (e.g., in the production of biodiesel) has excellent environmental and economic benefits.
As part of the project, a citizen empowerment platform was developed for the participatory recycling of household waste, specifically used cooking oils and biomass (organic fraction of municipal waste). The platform leverages new technologies to encourage active citizen participation in recycling initiatives and simultaneously fosters collaboration between waste collection and transportation entities and citizens. This collaboration leads to the optimal environmental management of generated household biomass waste and used cooking oils.
