Transforming Energy Pricing:
From a Uniform to a Dynamic Approach
05.2025 – 05.2026
The METEN project aims to develop integrated dynamic pricing solutions for residential electricity consumers, by combining technologies and applications that enhance the sustainability and efficiency of the energy system. It includes the analysis and processing of historical PPC data to identify distinct consumption profiles, as well as the installation of smart meters in households to collect real-time consumption data. Based on these data, the project develops consumer profiles and determines the parameters that affect both the electricity price and overall consumption, distinguishing between inelastic and elastic demand. A core research objective is the creation of a mathematical optimization model that dynamically sets the electricity price (hourly or every 15 minutes) so that it better reflects the actual cost, improves the utilization of renewable energy sources (RES), and ensures affordable energy for vulnerable consumers, who adapt their usage habits in response to price signals. In parallel, a web application incorporating gamification elements is being developed to support user-friendly interaction with the dynamic pricing concept. Finally, consumer responsiveness is evaluated using machine learning techniques based on real usage choices. The results feed back into the optimization model, enabling personalized pricing aligned with each consumer’s preferences and behavior.
