Dr Stavros Karamperidis is an Associate Professor in Maritime Economics and Logistics in the Department of Supply Chain Management at the International Hellenic University, Greece. He used to an Associate Professor in Maritime Economics at University of Plymouth, England for 9 years. Prior to that, for more than 6 years he worked at Heriot-Watt University, Scotland as an Assistant Professor in Shipping and International Logistics. He obtained his PhD from Newcastle University, England and worked as a research associate at The University of Aberdeen, Scotland.
Before joining academia, he worked in a range of companies from SME’s to large multinationals. Stavros through his roles has a continuous involvement with the industry, thus his involvement in various professional organisations.
He is regularly invited to deliver insights at various universities, companies, key commercial conferences around the globe (the SHADEMed conference (key conference which discuss ways to enhance maritime security throughout the Mediterranean region) to present on the topic: Protecting the Mediterranean Strategic Economic and Energy Gateway) by commenting on issues related to his expertise: shipping and logistics with emphasis on decarbonisation/sustainability, digitalisation, geopolitics and security (physical and cyber).
Stavros is delivering actionable, influential research and building long lasting collaborations, thus he has collaboration with several key stakeholders (e.g. NATO, Government of Canada, UK government, OECD, AIRBUS, European Freight Leaders Forum, Oldendorff Carriers, Port of Plymouth). He has proven experience in shipping, data analysis with innovative tools/concepts, long term strategy and budget planning, project management and delivery.
Supportive and enthusiastic team player and leader who is dedicated to streamlining processes in local and global level by understanding cultural dynamics, efficiently resolving project issues and deliver On Time in Full (OTIF) results. Managed to secure more than £3,1 million in research funding the last four years, 65 peer reviewed academic publications (including peer-reviewed journal articles, peer-reviewed international conference papers, and book chapters).
High collaborative and effective communicator with more than 70 presentations in key academic and commercial conferences and more than 40 times appearance on global media (e.g. BBC, Aljazeera) to discuss about maritime transport, logistics and geopolitics.
Known for researching complex business and shipping challenges and simplifying it into actionable insights in a variety of publication that reach short articles, to best practices and policies. Stavros is a team player and used to lead and coach a team of 150 members. That team has created several policy documents both nationally and globally.
Finally, he is a council member of the Society of Maritime Industries (SMI) Ports and Terminals Group, Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), Member of Royal Institution of Naval Architects and Board Member of the Hellenic Logistics Company of Northern Greece.
Stavros is considered as a thought international leader connecting business leaders on issues related to maritime economics and logistics.
