Dr. Ioannis Kostavelis has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Supply Chain Management at the International Hellenic University (IHU) since 2022. He received his Diploma in Production and Management Engineering from Democritus University of Thrace, an MSc in Informatics and Digital Media from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and a PhD specialising in “Robotic Vision” from Democritus University of Thrace in 2009, 2011, and 2015, respectively. His main research interests focus on robotic navigation and mapping, machine learning for industrial applications, and automation of logistics applications. From 2011 to 2015, Dr. Kostavelis worked as a research associate in the robotics laboratory of the Department of Production and Management Engineering (DUTH), participating in several European projects during his doctoral research. During 2015–2020, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at CERTH/ITI, and from 2020 to 2022 he served as a Grade C Researcher at CERTH/ITI. Dr. Kostavelis has participated in more than 15 research projects funded by the EU, Greece, and other organisations, serving as Coordinator, Principal Investigator, Technical Manager, and Research Associate. To date, he has co-authored more than 120 scientific publications in robotics, including peer-reviewed journal articles, peer-reviewed international conference papers, and book chapters. He also serves as a reviewer and member of editorial teams for leading international journals and conferences related to robotics and industrial applications.
