The Department of Supply Chain Management belongs to the School of Economics and Management and is based in the city of Katerini. The mission of the Department, with a modern curriculum, is to educate, train, and provide all the necessary tools to its students so that, upon graduation, they can develop into professionals in businesses and organizations responsible for the design, implementation, and control of operational functions related to Supply Chain Management and Logistics. These functions cover the entire process of transforming raw materials, received from suppliers, into finished products offered to customers. They typically include procurement, material handling, inventory management, order processing, warehousing, packaging, transportation, spare parts management, repairs, customer service, handling returned products, product or component reuse, recycling, final waste disposal, and more.
Supply Chain Management extends beyond the company, encompassing the management of all flows within a supply chain, from the supplier to the end consumer. Additionally, it includes the coordination and collaboration with all supply chain partners, who may be raw material suppliers, transporters, producers/manufacturers, distribution centers, wholesalers, retailers, and, of course, consumers. Supply Chain Management integrates and coordinates planning, procurement, production, warehousing, transportation, and sales both within and between companies, and it pertains to all types of products or services, such as agricultural products, water, pharmaceuticals, oil, industrial goods, and more. Therefore, it is a part of the daily lives of all people
In the past five years, the Department has participated either as a lead partner or as a partner in numerous research projects, thereby developing numerous and highly significant collaborations with various educational institutions both domestically and internationally, as well as with social organizations and businesses at the forefront of technology
